The rose, the Boy and the Tree

Caferati holds an annual GPF or Godawful Poetry Fortnight. To read more about this writing exercise, please click here.

Now, this particular godawful poem caught my attention, so I decided to write a sequel for it, assuming the original poet/author would not mind :-)

So, here is the original poem by Aasif Shah:

An old tree craves for a company.
A boy comes and waters him.
He feels good.
‘Wish I could help you,’ says he to the boy.
‘No worries,’ replies the boy.

The tree dies.
The boy becomes lonely.
He decides to grow up.

The boy falls in love. But he can’t tell her.
He is too shy, you see.

One day, the girl gives him a red rose.

‘Hi, this is my rebirth as a rose!’ says the rose,
‘I am the old tree you once helped.’

And this is my response, rather, a sequel to his poem:-

‘Now isn’t that romantic?’ sighed the Boy
‘It certainly is’, Rose replied, coy
The boy picked up the rose, admired her beauty
‘You are, by far, most charming and pretty!’

‘Thank you’, said Rose, smiling bright
‘I came back for you, now Hug me tight!’
The boy turned red, like he was blushing…
Rose turned red too, as if petals crushing.

‘Rose, O, Rose’, Boy cried from his heart
‘Just tell me one thing, since we went apart
You made me mourn your death, and wait…
Until eternity, now let’s get this straight’

‘What is it you want so much, to know,
Proof of my love perhaps, you want me to show?’
‘No no’, replied Boy, ‘I will not put you to task’
‘But one niggling doubt, I sure want to ask!’

‘Tell me, tell me’ your heart’s desire
What is troubling your mind, O Sire!

‘Tree, O Tree, if all you wanted was Return to Me’
‘Why the hell didn’t you come back, as
that girl saxy???????’

=============

And on this (ahem..) romantic note, I dedicate this poem to my Knight in shining armour :-) – my dream come true – on the occasion of our Wedding Anniversary!!!

(P.S: Uma, Deeps and some other well-meaning friends have been trying to bully me into writing something Mushy ;-) for the hubby, so I decided to publish the above poem instead ;-) Thank u girls, love you all :-) )

Sadly, most of the horror pics use something like this, so I understand why you might associate this with a vampire or something

  6. I overheard the below conversation :

Colleague : Happy anniversary man !
Hubby(sounding dull like Ross in Friends) : yeah right !

Colleague : What happened ? You forgot to get her a gift ?
Hubby :No, I did. She demanded a diamond ring for our anniversary and I gifted it.

Colleague : Woah, you sure are romantic!! so whats wrong then?
Hubby : Her gift !!!! She gifted me a POEM man; a POEM !! She maybe some big blogger blah-blah, but what on earth would I do with a POEM ???

Colleague : Yikes; I heard somewhere that “Every husband has a sad story to tell”. How true, na?

    —————————————————————————————

Heres wishing you the happiest anniversary ever, Pal !! :D :D

Btw, the above conversation has nothing to do with you; you dedicated the poem to him, and not gift it right ? :P :P

      1. Heyyy, I wished you too ! :D :D :D

Btw, we all hubbys of the blogworld has to meet. I am alone in this sick world ! :D :D Look at Quirky going ho-ho below ! :D :D :D

    1. Terrific,Vims..loved the conversation.LOL!! You must have probably spoken for most of the men. This is how most of them would react, at least I know this is how my man would if I were to gift him a poem or a greeting card with the mushiest of messages in it or a love quote

      1. yeah, we men are hypocrites basically! we say, we dont like anything materialistic, but we are the ones who expect a lot when it comes to these kinda occasions :D :D :D

  7. Worse verse I have yet to read
My analysis you need to heed.

Anniversaries may come and anniversaries may go,
Leaving one with only a diamond or two to show,

But yours is truly a gift beyond compare, a gift very clever,
Coz it ain’t a diamond but godawful poetry that is forever.

    Best wishes!

    1. Thank you, thank you, oh hibernating Quirky
Where have you been? India or Turkey??
You post no more, comment neither….
Better come back, right now, hither!!!

Thanks for your wishes, Quirky :-)

  8. Haaapppy anniversary Paljii!! :)

    I knew it!!!
And wht to say abt the poem! :D
It was even worse than the first one! :D :D :D
Hee hee hee, I always aim to be best.. even if it is from last ;-)
& i totally agree with Vimmuu there!! If he gives u a diamond ring,u must atleast gift him a truck load of video games!
Ha!! The diamond ring was a figment of imagination, of our great Prince Villiam!!
Why do i get the feeling tht this is goin to be my last n final comment at Crocodile country?
    Hee hee hee!!

So, what do you think?
