The Ghost

She would sit hunched,
Every night.
Ever watchful
Of Ghosts
Lurking behind shadows.

Waiting patiently,
Every night.
Adamantly keeping open
Drooping, heavy eyelids,
Ears tuned to whispers from the unknown.

She would fall into an abyss
Some nights,
Of sleep, so overpowering
He would then appear
In her dreams.

Caressing her gently
At night…
His touch, cool and tender
on her hot forehead.
But when she awoke, startled

She would find darkness
Every night!
And then she would wish for
An apparition, even frightful
Of the ghost of her lover!

For ghosts,
Were more tangible
Than dreams.

(Girls/Guys, you know that I know a sh*t about poetry..but I attempted this on some sudden …ahem.. inspiration. Please let me know, HONESTLY, what you think? Does it seem, even from a distance, something like a poem?… Thankidou!)

    1. * Quirky – Thank you, my friend! That was certainly a good start πŸ™‚

      * Hitchy – Oh, join the club of the non-poets. Thank you πŸ™‚ And you will, always, remain hitchy-bhai πŸ˜‰

      * Raamesh – Wow! wowwwieeeee! A comment from YOU, and that too, THIS comment… I really really couldn’t ask for more! Thank you! I need to print this page off and file it!

      * Prats – He he, I have attempted Rotten Poetry before and did decently well, only because, as the title goes, it was ‘rotten’ poetry. Thank you so much!

      1. Oh okay…then we’r back to being friends πŸ™‚

        And Ghosts? From Christmas past?

Me liked your “rotten” poem πŸ™‚

    1. *Pixu – Awww…thank you Pixu! Do u know, I dreamt of u last night! Really! As if I was coming over to BLR and meeting you

*Pushy- Thank you very much! As for ‘inspiration’, I am perennially afraid of things lurking behind shadows! πŸ˜‰ My little son is braver than I am!!

  1. What? You were a poet and you didn’t even know it (ha – someone was bound to come up with that quip, so might as well be me πŸ˜€ But seriously, For a poetically challenged person that was a neat little poem πŸ˜€

    1. * Swaram – Ooohhh..thank you so much!

      * Dreamer – Wow! That is some compliment! ‘Poetically challenged’ He he..that’s perfect πŸ™‚

      * Vimmu – Cool. Shows I have work to do. Re-work, in this case. Thank you!

      * Shweta – He he! That was honest, wasn’t it? Thanks, for saying it resembled poetry. About the rest…will try to add a footnote or something to explain what I meant πŸ™‚

    1. Athey than naan expect pannen! And that means, this is definitely on the lines of poetry, because I cannot understand poems either πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

  2. Pal, what I liked in your poetic post,
    was not definitely the ghost,
    but the truthfulness foremost,
that jumps out & touches you almost.
To the future poet I raise a toast.
    πŸ™‚

  3. Hi, I llked your poem and wouldnt have known how challenging it was for you until I read your footnote. Personally I feel you shouldnt add any more footnotes for I believe thats how poetry should be left to be comprehended by the readers. And they can give any meanings they please to it. Always leave something for 2 or more readers to argue about it. πŸ™‚ “For Ghosts were more tangible than dreams” – I liked that. I mean both dreams and ghosts are intangible but your poem did prove that ghosts are more tangible than dreams even for a person like me who dont believe in ghosts. It was classic! Good work!!

    1. * Deeps – Thank you! Didn’t mean to make it sound scary πŸ™‚

      * Stella – Thank you so very much..especially for the suggestion. Will keep that in mind. And, there seems to be a problem with me leaving a comment on your blog. I did manage to leave one, but then the system kept throwing me out. Just wanted to say, could you please send a few drops of Poison my way? πŸ™‚

  4. Spooky poetry πŸ˜€ …. HONESTLY it was gr8 and a theme change… or am I away from the blogs for a very long time πŸ˜›

  5. Thank you Dman! Hmm…even I’ve forgotten how old the theme is, because I’ve been neglecting my blog and blogosphere of late!

  6. Thanks Writerzblock. I left out something. I used to be like you before; scared of the dark and ghosts. Not anymore. But your poem put forth the exact feeling. I am not sure I would have liked to experience the tangible feeling but I did feel it once in a completely different dream. I woke up and lay awake for a looong time because it was sooo real.

    1. Stella – I think most of the time, ghosts/dark are all things that WANT to be afraid of. Things that draw and attract us, just because they are surreal. Please do read this short story of mine, as it might interest you: https://writerzblock.wordpress.com/2008/05/15/the-movie/

About your dream, its eerie that sometimes, dreams are more real than reality. And when you wake up and find it was ‘just a dream’ you are actually a wee bit disappointed that it didn’t last enough to be real. Any ideas on that?

    1. Thank you, IHM! 100 years to you…was just thinking of Tag-ging you, then wondered if you would be interested. Will do it anyway, and hope that you also take up the tag πŸ™‚

      1. Thank you, Arti. He he, about the image…I don’t have a clue how this chooses it! Pliss to upload your gravatar so it can be picked up automatically πŸ™‚

        1. πŸ™‚ Oh yes, I have a gravatar account for two ids. I did not know the blogger one does not have an image!
          GBU
          Arti

Me: πŸ™‚ That’s a very sweet picture of yourself!

So, what do you think?
